The FBI Agent's Association Baltimore Chapter Presents
THE SAM HICKS MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
benefiting the
MEMORIAL COLLEGE EDUCATION FUND
The MCEF began in 1985 after 5 Special Agents died while on duty in the New York Office. The fund was originally a no interest loan fund for the children of those and other deceased Special Agents. Due to the kindess and generosity of countless individuals and corporations, the fund began awarding scholarships in 1996. Since that time, the fund has awarded over 150 children over $3 million in college tuition.
The FBI Agent's Association, Baltimore Chapter, has hosted this tournament for 26 years. From this point on, the tournament will be held in Sam's memory.
The event will be held on Friday, September 25, 2009

MT. PLEASANT, Pa. -- The family of an FBI agent killed in the line of duty donated the agent’s personal library to a local grade school Monday.
Special Agent Samuel Hicks attended Verna Montessori School as a child.
The agent was shot while serving a warrant to an Indiana Township home in November 2008.
Hicks’ mother, Charlotte Carrabotta, believes the education he received at Verna Montessori School was highly influential and shaped her son's character and intellect.
Carrabotta and other family members made the donation so that Hicks’ life could be remembered in a positive way.
They also hope the gesture brings light to the school which they believe provides excellent primary education.
Verna Montessori School is located in Mt. Pleasant, Pa. and educates children from preschool through eighth grade.

We've coined it as the 'Run to Remember' for Pittsburgh FBI Special Agent Sam Hicks who was killed in the line of duty on November 19. Sam was a dear friend to many of us, and this tragedy has inspired us to continue to honor Sam's life through this year's Baltimore (October 10) marathon. We're re-releasing the previously designed "Team Hicks" shirts worn during this year's Pittsburgh marathon in order to show our pride and dedication down in Baltimore. All of the proceeds from the shirts will be going to the Samuel Hicks Memorial Fund and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
Please copy and paste the link if you are interested in ordering a 'Run to Remember' shirt: https://survey.vt.edu/survey/entry.jsp?id=1243096570395
In addition, please join us for some of the upcoming "Team Hicks" events:
2009 Steelers 5K - August 30 - Pittsburgh, PA
2009 Baltimore Marathon - October 10 - Baltimore, MD
2010 Martha's Run - April 10 - Mt. Lebanon, PA
2010 Pittsburgh Marathon - May 2 - Pittsburgh, PA

Wednesday, May 13 was the Candle Light Vigil to honor 133 law enforcement officers - including Sam - who died in the line of duty in 2008. It was a very emotional night for everyone. Every name that was called made your heart break a little more. And, when they called Sams name, it was as if time stood still for just a moment. With a crowd of 20,000 people, including family members of fallen officers, friends, and other law enforcement officers from around the county it was certainly a sight to see. When the candles were lit and the music began, you could not help shredding a few tears. It was one of those events that was so beautiful and amazing but also so very sad. It was a night to be surrounded by friends and family and for us to remember Sam.
Check out: http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/pittsburgh/s_625075.html
Be sure to watch the slide show to see a picture of Sams name on the Wall.
*They said that every two and half days a law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty. This is a very sad and scary statistic.

The Monument
I never dreamed it would be me
My name for all eternity
Recorded here at the hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face
"In the line of duty" I here them say
My family now the price will pay
My folded flag stained with their tears
We only had those few short years
The badge no longer on my chest
I sleep now in iternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind
And pray they keep this thought in mind
I never dreamed it would be me
And with heavy heart and bended knee
I ask for all here from the past
Dear God, let me name be last

Congrats to all those who ran (and finished) the Pittsburgh Marathon...whether it was the full, half or 5k! From what we hear, there was an amazing amount of yellow shirts in the crowd supporting Sam. ?Team Hicks? was definitely representing in full force and we thank you! Bring on the Baltimore Marathon!
I came across this in a news article:
Friends of slain FBI agent Sam Hicks - killed in November while serving a drug warrant in Indiana Township - are running in his memory and have created "The Noah Hicks Education Fund" for Sam's young son. "I think we will all have an extra wind at our back at our worst moments," one person wrote

Thank you to all those who have attended or participated in the recent events honoring Sam.
May 1, 2009 – Maryland Fallen Heroes Day…Hundreds gathered at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens to remember police and firefighters killed in the line of duty. Sam was recognized and honored along with eight other men and women who also lost their lives this past year. To the members of the honor guard, who stood out in the pouring rain for the entire ceremony – you all are extraordinary people and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
May 1, 2009 – (Pittsburgh) The Fraternal Order of Police held a candlelight ceremony to add the names of those recently killed in the line of duty to a memorial wall at the Police Memorial Site on North Shore Drive and Art Rooney Way, across from Heinz Field. This year four names were added: Samuel Hicks, Paul Sciullo, Eric Kelly and Stephen Mayhle. A big thank you to all those who wore their yellow “Team Hicks” shirts!
May 2, 2009 – There was also a ceremony in DC at which Sam's name was engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. It was a very emotional day and the large turnout at this event was a testament to the lasting impact Sam has made on many people. A very special thank you to Sam’s Quantico classmates who attended.
